free, light-weight antivirus with a powerful scanning engine that's easily
configurable and perfect for less powerful PCs.

Avira Free Antivirus protects your PC against viruses, worms, trojans,
spyware and rootkits while preserving your safety in real time.
The antivirus can scan programs, lets you create exclusion rules and
assign priority during the system analysis phase, and provides you with reports
and an events log.
Among the new features of Avira Free Antivirus 2014 are two new
integrated services. One is SocialShield, a parental control
service to help parents monitor their children's activities on social networks
likeFacebook, Twitter, and Google+, informing
parents of any potential safety risks. The other is Avira Free Android Security, an app which protects your Android phone or tablet.
The Firewall menu gives an overview on the current configuration of the
Windows Firewall (meaning it doesn't have its own firewall) and allows you to
change the settings if necessary.
Avira Free Antivirus 2014 includes a Game Mode, a function
that's useful for optimizing resource consumption during a gaming session.
There are certain features, like the email scanner and web protection, that are
visible in the interface but unfortunately are only available in the paid
version.
